The financial crisis and its consequences on the real economy have affected, in varied yet universal fashion, all the countries and peoples of the world.
Be they in Europe or Latin America, the people expect answers. For socialists and social democrats, these answers cannot be limited to economic ones. They should also be based on solidarity.
This is a common challenge for all our parties, whether in Europe or Latin America. It must lead us to reflect together and together build alternatives that respond to the expectations of the people.
For all of these reasons the next summit of Latin American and European States which meets in Madrid on 18 May should also represent an opportunity for an exchange between socialists and social democrats of Europe and Latin America.
