International strongly condemns bombings in Madrid

11 March 2004

The Socialist International expresses its strongest condemnation of the horrendous bomb attacks in Madrid this morning which took the lives of so many innocent people.

The International is certain that these atrocious acts of terror will not dent the spirit of the democratic, peace-loving people of Spain as they approach the elections this weekend, nor will it weaken the resolve of people everywhere for peace, security and democracy, wherever they are threatened.

The International reaffirms its full solidarity with the Spanish people at this painful time and with the Spanish Socialist Workers Party, PSOE, a member of the Socialist International. Our thoughts today are in particular with the families and friends of the victims, to whom we extend our deepest condolences.
