Socialist International condemns use of force against humanitarian convoy to Gaza

The Socialist International (SI) is shocked and deeply dismayed at the assault by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) early this morning on a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid and hundreds of civilians en route to Gaza, leaving numerous dead and scores wounded.

This is an unacceptable use of force by Israel which the International condemns as an illegal act carried out in international waters and which should be immediately addressed by the international community to clearly establish responsibility.

The SI extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in this tragic and deplorable incident and its sympathy to all those who have been injured.

The conditions for genuine dialogue and negotiation, which the peoples of the region urgently need and deserve, should not continue to be eroded. There is no other way forward but peace.
