Socialist International reaffirms its full support for United Nations

In a meeting today with Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the organisation’s headquarters in New York, António Guterres, President of the Socialist International, together with Luis Ayala, Secretary General of the SI, reaffirmed the full support of the International for the United Nations as the fundamental and indispensable institution for promoting international cooperation, peace and security in the world.

The representatives of the International underlined the SI’s permanent commitment to multilateralism in facing global problems and challenges, as well as the need for the international community to exhaust every political and diplomatic opportunity to overcome international conflicts and crises. In this context, they conveyed to the United Nations Secretary-General the Socialist International’s hope of seeing the objective of the full and immediate disarmament of Iraq achieved through these means.
