Socialist International strongly condemns terrorist attack in Jerusalem, appeals for redoubled efforts toward peace

11 June 2003

The Socialist International is appalled by and strongly condemns the bombing carried out in Jerusalem today by Hamas that killed at least sixteen people and injured many more.

There can be no justification whatsoever for such an atrocity and the International again calls for those responsible for such terrorist acts to be brought to justice.

The International also remains deeply concerned about responses to terrorism that serve only to perpetuate the cycle of violence and undermine efforts to secure a peaceful solution.

The Socialist International therefore appeals once again to both the Palestinians and the Israelis to turn away from violence, to exert restraint as well as determination when confronting terrorism and to redouble efforts toward carrying out the roadmap for peace and ensuring that the great opportunity it provides is not lost.
