Statement about recent developments in Türkiye and the CHP Sister Party

The Socialist International stands in solidarity with its member party CHP, its leader Ozgur Ozel and the Mayor of Istanbul Ekrem İmamoğlu who was arrested today following unclear accusations a few days before party primaries for the nomination of the candidate for the next presidential elections. The respect of the rule of law, an independent justice system and freedom of speech are fundamental criteria for a working democracy.
We are following closely developments in Türkiye and support all those who fight for our common values.
