Statement by the Socialist International on Moldova

On October 20th, in a referendum, the people of Moldova made the historic decision to formally link the future of their country with the democratic family of the European Union through a constitutional amendment. This outcome is extremely important if we take into account the attempts of external forces to influence the result using illicit means and active disinformation campaigns.
The Socialist International stands firmly against any interference from abroad in electoral processes and supports all efforts for securing free and fair elections.
As the upcoming second round of the presidential elections and the parliamentary elections in 2025 will be instrumental for Moldova but also for peace and stability in the region, we express our solidarity with the European Social Democratic Party and all those fighting for democracy, independence, and the rule of law.
