Statement on the flooding in Libya

The catastrophic flooding in Libya has thus far claimed the lives of 5,300 individuals, left over 10,000 people unaccounted for, and displaced more than 30,000 individuals. The Socialist International conveys its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all those affected.
The humanitarian needs are immense, and immediate action is required to alleviate the suffering of the affected population. In this critical time we urge all international actors to join hands in providing urgent assistance and aid to address both the immediate and long-term challenges.
We stand with the people of Libya during this difficult period.
