Socialist International Resolution on case of Temirlan Sultanbekov and Social Democrats

Socialist International expresses its deep concern about the situation in Kyrgyzstan and especially the imprisonment of our comrade and Vice President Temirlan Sultanbekov.
Socialist International condemns the annulment of registered lists of candidates of the Social Democratic and the accusations made without a court decision and reliable evidence.
Socialist International welcomes the statement of the CEC (Central Election Commission) Chairperson N. Shaildabekova on the insufficiency of evidence against the Social Democratic Party, as well as her appeal to law enforcement agencies.
We believe it is necessary to conduct an independent investigation into the violations, provide legal and political support to the victims, and engage international observers to assess the electoral process in Kyrgyzstan. Democracy cannot be held hostage to political ambitions, and any form of persecution of the opposition must be condemned.
Considering all the above elements, Socialist International presents the José Francisco Peña Gómez Award to Temirlan Sultanbekov, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan. This award symbolizes the recognition of his resilience and dedication, inspiring all of us to continue to fight for democratic values and human rights.
Socialist International reaffirms its solidarity with the Social Democrats of Kyrgyzstan, urges the release of Temirlan Sultanbekov and recalls the efforts of S&D Group and the statement of the EU Parliament in support of Temirlan Sultanbekov’s freedom. We pledge to inform the international community about the repressions and the necessary restoration of justice.
