The SI Council expresses its concern that recent chauvinist attacks by the National Popular Front (ELAM) damage the peace process and serious legal action should be taken in accordance with hate crime laws. The SI salutes the will and determination shown by the leaders of the two communities to bring an end to the division of the island of Cyprus. Accordingly, it considers of great importance the confidence-building and other measures based on our principles and values and the resolutions of the UN to reach a solution to the problem of Cyprus on the basis of a bi-communal federation with political equality.
