Global Progressive Mobilisation
12 April 2026
The Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM) held in Barcelona on 17–18 April 2026 brought together the largest gathering of progressive leaders, parties, trade unions, and civil society organisations in recent years, with an estimated attendance of around 5,000–6,000 participants from more than 40 countries. (Global Progressive Mobilisation) Convened under the leadership of Pedro Sánchez and supported by the Socialist International, the event served as a major international platform to coordinate responses to rising inequality, democratic backsliding, and global instability.
Across two days of discussions, participants reaffirmed a shared commitment to defending democracy, advancing social justice, and strengthening multilateral cooperation in an increasingly fragmented world. Guided by General Coordinator Chantal Kambiwa, the mobilisation focused on translating progressive principles into coordinated action across regions and institutions. The programme brought together political leaders, trade unions, and civil society actors to develop joint responses to key global challenges, including the cost-of-living crisis, climate action, and the protection of democratic rights.
The Barcelona gathering marked a significant moment in consolidating international progressive cooperation, reinforcing the role of the Socialist International as a central platform for dialogue and coordination. By uniting thousands of participants under a common agenda, the GPM demonstrated the growing effort to build a more connected and effective global progressive movement capable of delivering inclusive, democratic, and sustainable solutions.
