Statement of the presidential elections in Portugal

On the occasion of the presidential election in Portugal, the Socialist International expresses its fraternal support to the Portuguese Socialist Party wishing a big success to its candidate , Antonio Jose Seguro .
In a demanding international and European context where the extreme right and populist parties try to dismantle the acquis of many years of collective efforts , these elections represent a crucial moment for the defense of democracy, social justice, and progressive values. The Socialist International commends the commitment of the Portuguese Socialist Party alongside its people for an inclusive, and democratic Portugal.
The Socialist International reaffirms its commitment to stand with the Portuguese Socialist Party .
