In October 2000 the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) came in to power in Côte d'Ivoire.
Early in September 2002 the regime faced a coup d’Etat. During the meeting of the Socialist International Africa Committee which was held in Abidjan in 2008, the roots of this crisis were presented and it was recommended to all actors to create an environment conducive to a lasting peace.
The Agreement of Marcoussis in France led to the establishment of successive governments of national unity up to the presidential elections held on 31 October and 28 November 2010.
Since President Alassane Ouattara came to power in 2011, Côte d'Ivoire has been left in a situation of generalised insecurity, massive violation of human rights and the arbitrary detention of politicians and military personnel close to the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI).
Faced with this situation, the Socialist International Africa Committee cannot remain indifferent for almost three years and therefore resolves:
-‐ To send a fact-‐finding mission to Côte d'Ivoire. This mission will be tasked with meeting the government, representatives of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI) and other parties to gain a thorough understanding of the crisis.
-‐ That the results of this mission will indicate the actions to be taken at the next SI Council meeting.
-‐ That the leadership of the Africa Committee will report on this at the next Council meeting of the Socialist International.
