Europe Committee Meeting (Online)

Online meeting of the Europe Committee , 1st April 2026

The Europe Committee of the Socialist International convened virtually on April 1 , 2026 to exchange views on the  challenges faced by the European continent in an evolving international context . The meeting was Chaired by Paul Magnette, *President of the Europe committee *, with the General Coordinator of the SI Chantal Kambiwa  and Executive Vice President Paulina Lampsa also in attendance.

The discussion brought together representatives from across the continent and neighbouring regions, reflecting a broad range of perspectives on current geopolitical dynamics.

Participants engaged in a wide ranging dialogue on Europe’s place in a changing global landscape, underlining the importance of reinforcing resilience, safeguarding democratic principles, and promoting cooperation among nations. The conversation also highlighted the need to reflect on Europe’s role in contributing to stability, peace, and inclusive development at both regional and global levels.

Across the exchanges, there was a shared emphasis on the value of multilateralism, solidarity, and progressive dialogue in addressing common challenges. Participants stressed the importance of maintaining open channels of cooperation while fostering a forward looking vision grounded in shared values. 

The meeting formed part of an ongoing process of reflection within the committee, contributing to continued discussions on Europe’s future and its engagement with global partners.

As the issue of where Europe ends and  therefore , the question of enlargement was raised in the meeting , it was announced that  the Balkan Working Group chaired by Aleksandar Bogdanovic from our member party DPS of Montenegro,  will organise a Round Table event in the framework of Global Progressive Mobilisation.
