The Socialist International Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, meeting in La Antigua Guatemala on 23-24 March 2009, about the political situation in Venezuela,
RESOLVES:
To express its concern at the current tense and difficult political situation in Venezuela. The Committee considers that there exist numerous denunciations of decisions taken by the authorities that violate the rule of law and of political harassment. In support of its member parties, the Committee will send a special mission to Venezuela to gather direct information on the situation and encourage and strengthen dialogue among all the political actors in the country.
We therefore express our wish that the country may achieve a peaceful and democratic co-existence based upon the impartial and timely application of justice.
