Resolution of the Socialist International in Support of the Parliamentary Reform in the Republic of Kazakhstan
The Socialist International:
- expresses its support for the efforts of the leadership of the Republic of Kazakhstan to reform the legislative branch toward a more efficient, open, and democratic parliamentary system.
- Notes that the transition to a unicameral parliament, when carried out through broad public dialogue and an inclusive process, may contribute to:
improving the efficiency of parliamentary work;
accelerating the adoption of socially important legislation;
strengthening democratic participation of citizens;
enhancing oversight over the implementation of state policies.
- Supports the position of the OSDP, as a member party of the Socialist International, which consistently advocates for the institutional development of Kazakhstan, the expansion of public participation in decision-making, and the promotion of principles of social justice.
The Socialist International believes that the parliamentary reform in Kazakhstan opens opportunities for further democratization, improved governance, and strengthened social justice.
We express our solidarity with the OSDP and reaffirm our commitment to supporting progressive and democratic changes in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
