Resolution on DRC–Rwanda tensions

The conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, fueled by historical and contemporary factors, is above all an “economic war” for the control of mineral resources for the benefit of foreign powers, threatening the territorial integrity of the DRC.

  • The SI condemns the abuses committed against the population and the resulting chronic humanitarian crisis.

  • The SI calls for strict respect for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2773.
  • The SI welcomes the diplomatic progress made, in particular the direct talks between the Congolese government and the AFC/M23 group, as well as the signing of a declaration of principle in Doha including a prisoner-exchange mechanism, as concrete steps toward a lasting political solution.
