Resolution on political repression and human rights violations in Nicaragua

RESOLUTION ON POLITICAL REPRESSION AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN NICARAGUA

The Committee condemns the continuation of the repressive regime led by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, characterized by the total closure of democratic space, the systematic persecution of the opposition, forced exile, confiscation of property and the suppression of fundamental freedoms.

RESOLVES:

  1. To denounce before multilateral forums the authoritarian nature of the regime and fully support all initiatives for documentation, sanction and international denunciation of the human rights violations committed in Nicaragua.
  2. To support the work of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in their efforts to guarantee truth, justice and reparation for the victims of repression.
  3. To reaffirm the commitment of the Socialist International to the restoration of democracy in Nicaragua and to the construction of a broad international front in support of Nicaraguan democratic resistance.
  4. To support the report and recommendations of the Group of Experts on Human Rights on Nicaragua (GHREN), presented to the United Nations General Assembly on October 30, 2025, and to urge democratic governments to move from condemnation to action by promoting the necessary measures so that those responsible for crimes against humanity are brought before the competent
