Statement on Guinea-Bissau
The Socialist International condemns the coup d’état in Guinea-Bissau and the interruption of the electoral process, actions that violate the constitutional order and undermine democracy in the country.
We also firmly condemn the detention of political opponents, a practice incompatible with Human Rights and fundamental freedoms.
The Socialist International calls for the immediate restoration of constitutional legality, the release of all those detained for political reasons, and the re-establishment of the conditions necessary for the people of Guinea-Bissau to freely choose their representatives.
