SI Meeting at the 152nd Assembly of the IPU in Istanbul

15th - 19th April 2026

At the 152nd IPU Assembly and Related Meetings in Istanbul, the Socialist International convened a side meeting under the theme “Mobilising for Global Challenges: Prosperity, Democracy and Peacebuilding.” The session was chaired by Evrim Rızvanoğlu of the Republican People's Party, bringing together leading voices from across the progressive political family. The meeting provided a platform for dialogue and coordination at a time of mounting global uncertainty, reaffirming the importance of international cooperation and shared political values.

Contributions from panellists enriched the discussion across all three thematic pillars. Nasima Razmyar of the Social Democratic Party of Finland and Vice President of the Socialist International, alongside Ana Martinez of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, addressed the need to advance inclusive prosperity, strengthen democratic resilience, and deepen international solidarity. Their interventions highlighted the importance of reducing inequality, safeguarding democratic institutions, and ensuring that global economic and political systems work for all.

The discussion was further enriched by special guest contributions from Berk Esen, Deputy Chair responsible for Foreign Affairs of the CHP, and İlhan Uzgel. Both speakers underscored the importance of peacebuilding and multilateral engagement in addressing today’s complex global challenges. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to mobilising collective action across the Socialist International network, linking prosperity, democracy, and peacebuilding as essential and interdependent pillars of a just and stable international order.
