Presidium Meeting
Malta
Pedro Sánchez, President of the Socialist International, chaired the 2025 Presidium Meeting in Malta, which brought together Vice Presidents and senior representatives from across regions to discuss key international political developments. The meeting was hosted buy the Prime Minister of Malta, Robert Abela, and was also attended by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Prime Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picardo. Discussions focused on peace and security, including developments in the Middle East following the ceasefire in Gaza, as well as situations in Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, and Venezuela.
Chantal Kambiwa, General Coordinator of the Socialist International presented to the Presidium members the priorities of the organization for the coming period . Executive Vice President Paulina Lampsa briefed the Presidium on the recommendations of the Ethics Committee that were to be voted by the Councî and the report was adopted by all Vice Presidents . During an exchange of views on the state of democracy in the world it was highlighted that the Socialist International should actively support the politicians from member parties facing persecution or imprisonment in countries including Turkiye, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Niger. To address the narrative of the Ultra International it was decided to support the idea of a joint initiative with the Party of European Socialists for a Progressive Mobilization .
